Feeling Patriotic

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

With Fourth of July right around the corner, I wanted to get some sort of decoration or something to start the celebration off right. I looked around the stores but everything seemed sort of boring or like I'd have to end up buying lots of different things. It seemed like a wreath would be the best way to go and it'd probably be fun to make my own.

I love star shapes and every patriotic wreath I've ever liked involved stars somehow. I went to JoAnn's and picked up a package of wooden craft stars in assorted sizes and a grape vine wreath. I knew I had some craft paint at home in the appropriate colors so the supplies only cost me about $7 total! Happy face!

The first thing I did was paint all the stars either red, white, or blue. I tried to keep an even assortment of colors but just sort of eye balled it.

Before I started gluing the stars onto the wreath I played with the placement a little bit. I know myself and if I didn't plan it out things would've got crazy. Burnt fingertips and hot glue strings everywhere - not cute. But since I'd already figured things out the gluing was easy and I was done in no time. Here's the finished product:

I'm really happy with the results. I think if I find something sparkly to add to the wreath I will because well, it seems appropriate for the 4th and I always like a sparkle. But I like it's pretty cute as is. Anyone else been decorating for the 4th of July?
